Every single person I have come across in my life suffers from varying levels of mental illness / anguish, psychological issues / wounds, anxiety and unjustified insecurities. All of us. I am a loving, observant, non-judgemental & interested people-person so I believe, if we spend some time together, I could identify at least one of these in you.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this. We are not flawed. It is not hopeless. Because, as a society sharing these “traits” (for lack of a better word) we should be compassionate, accepting, understanding & supportive of those who suffer more, or more frequently or struggle to cope.

So then, why is it that we often aren’t?

Why are we so quick to avert our eyes from the disheveled person on the bus muttering obscenities to themselves? Why do we hesitate to give a dollar to a person who asks for it, because we think they are going to spend it on alcohol, drugs or gambling? Why do we say cruel things to others, even loved ones that we know will hurt them? Why DON’T we press ‘like’ or ‘heart’ on every single person’s post on social media? I mean, why not?

I don’t need to feel that I am better than you. In fact, I want everyone to feel good. Do good. Love themselves and love others. Something has occurred in society over time that has made us competing jerks.

It is all a facade.

As a collective, we admire the wrong things in people and it makes us unaccepting of people that don’t possess these so-called attributes.

Extremely good looks. Let’s be honest, other than looking after yourself through things like diet & exercise or being wealthy enough to change the way you look, this is something a person is born with or without. It’s a lottery. A genetic lottery. Sure, we can admire it but it shouldn’t rule us as a society, the way it does. There is an aspect of (physical) beauty in all of us. Maybe you have nice eyebrows. Good legs. Nice teeth. Pretty hair. Cute freckles. Maybe you’re tall and lithe. Maybe you’re petite and sweet. Who really cares, because I am sure all of you can tell me about one person that has touched your heart… and it had ZERO to do with how they look.

Possession of cool things. I like cool things, I’d be dishonest if I said I didn’t. But, I’m not impressed by a person just because they have cooler or own more cool things than me. You can own the entire new season of Gucci ready-to-wear or whatever, and it’s not going to make you a better person. So I don’t drive a Ferrari. So I’m wearing no-brand tattered clothes, have no kind of hairstyle, don’t have a big house or a fancy handbag. That does not make you better. Possession of things is not to be admired. I’d be more likely to admire the person who designed and created those cool things. FYI. My mama always told me, it’s not the clothes, its the hanger and I don’t think she meant it to be a metaphor… but I turned it into one – that it’s what is INSIDE that counts. As the saying goes, you can sprinkle glitter on shit, but at the end of the day it is still shit. Stop admiring people with all the expensive things. Stop placing all your desire on getting the latest popular thing. And PLEASE stop feeling bad because you don’t have all the things.

And please, please, please stop trying to make other people envious. Make a switch to helping people feel inspired.

So I can talk and write about my feelings on this forever, but I’ll stop for now 🙂 I will just say this;

Be real. Admire real things in people like a sense of humour, caring heart, willingness to listen, positive attitude, strength, resilience, good leadership, compassion, talent, intelligence, open-mindedness. You get my drift.

See the beauty in everyone and everything, by looking past the facade society. Sometimes its buried so deep to the naked, untrained eye, but take it as your daily challenge to accept EVERY SINGLE PERSON you encounter, without judgement.

Love. It’s the answer.

Imagine there’s no heaven. It’s easy if you try. No hell below us. Above us only sky. Imagine all the people living for today / Imagine there’s no countries, It isn’t hard to do. Nothing to kill or die for. And no religion too. Imagine all the people living life in peace / Imagine no possessions. I wonder if you can. No need for greed or hunger. A brotherhood of man. Imagine all the people sharing all the world.

You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one. I hope some day you’ll join us AND THE WORLD WILL BE AS ONE.

{I have to caveat here, because as open & loving as I try to be, there are some evil monsters out there. Sure, I understand that being an evil monster in some cases can also be a product of a shitty childhood / circumstance… but some actions are beyond my understanding / acceptance}
